- Wright Thompson, “Michael Jordan Has Not Left the Building” – just amazing: another reminder to keep working on my writing. Yes, Jordan dissects LeBron’s game. But the larger themes of getting to the top with rage, competing over everything imaginable to push yourself, watching your bid for immortality slip away simply because you’re alive – well, let’s just say someone put America into a feature article.
- Your Imaginary Girlfriend: Taylor Swift – the less said about this, the better. I will say that I am jealous of people who can write fanfiction. There’s an understanding of how popular culture affects us at play I wish I had.
- Thoughts on: Actual Sunlight (h/t Ricky McAlister) – I’ll never play this game. But it seems to me to be very interesting what people are doing with gaming. This isn’t shocking for the sake of being shocking. It’s trying to be something more and has a bluntness that our great books (think about other works on suicide) tend to lack.
- Deadspin is going to revolutionize sports journalism and it’s about time. I absolutely love it when they start trashing rich, greedy owners who think taxpayers owe them. I can’t even begin to discuss how awful it is that teams need new facilities in the middle of the worst economy this country has seen in years for spring training. Also, if you live in North Carolina, you need to be really clear to Jerry Richardson that you’re not paying for his “hardship.”
- Widor, “Mattheus-Final” – I’m pretty sure both Widor & Franck had this idea that the organ could be a one-man symphony. As you’ll see from the recording, this is not without merit.
