If someone is simply rehashing the same story everyone else is why would someone Tweet, Digg, Stumble etc. the post? I guess they do, which is your point, but I am more likely to promote a post that is unique or different in some way.

One way to make it feel as though the baseball season goes on forever is to have to world series run all the way into November.

ANOTHER way to make the baseball season feel as though it will never end is to have the Yankees in the World Series.

Combine the two and you have this quasar of suck-itude so dense that not even light can ecape.

Bandwagon tendency is quite helpful to make a particular news buzz all around the world. Take the case of Twitter, same news is tweeted and retweeted by people with same or different words. It ultimately leads to some or the other news appearing in the "hot trends". Their appearance in the hot trends section makes them trendier again with people reading them again tweeting about it. Similar is the case with blogosphere.
