I get my new computer today, so I’m a bit too excited right now. It’s not here yet. *sigh*
- Charles Rangel is head of the House Ways and Means Committee: to say this is one of the most powerful positions in American politics would be understating the obvious. He is also one of the most corrupt members of Congress, and I’ll let you guess which party defended him during a recent vote to get him ousted as chairman. Also, Jack Murtha.
- Lots of good Baucus bill analysis at Megan McArdle’s “Asymmetrical Information:” Can the costs of this health care legislation really be controlled, as the CBO’s numbers say? (No.) Also, does a look at the numbers yield anything making intuitive sense? (No on first glance, the comments are worth a read.)
- Jay Cost’s take on the Baucus bill: Not gonna happen, ignore the reaction of most mainstream media; partisan blogs despise it. One of his links is to Greg Mankiw, who wonders if the marginal tax rate could increase to about 70-75% for many not-so-rich families because of this legislation.
