Out until early morning Monday…

…Collegium is singing a wedding in Omaha: my flight gets in at 12:10 am Monday. Taking some heavy reading with me, although I don’t know how much I’ll get to.

In case you’re curious what I’ve been reading recently –

  • just finished Strauss’ short essay “On Natural Law” in Studies in Platonic Political Philosophy – still digesting it, not quite sure what to make of it, but happy for the discussion of commutative and distributive justice in Aristotle and the short take on how eternal, divine and natural law relate in Aquinas. No, I don’t understand all of that. I’m just happy I know where to look it up.
  • been working slowly through an essay of Benardete’s, “On Greek Tragedy:” he gives readings of the “Oresteia,” “Prometheus Bound,” “Oedipus at Colonus” and another play or two there.
  • If anyone has a good secondary source explaining Yeats’ “In Memory of Major Robert Gregory,” it’d be appreciated.

I’ve been putting off dissertation editing, but that will resume very shortly, and you will get updates on how that’s going.
