The very lushness of trees in this area creates an interplay of green and shadow far darker than anything the sky can produce.

The sky can be cloudy at night, but even then there is a smudging of light, and one always wonders about the lights beyond. Shades of darkness seem to be purely an earthly phenomenon.

I wonder now about the majesty of trees. In their branches they guard us from excess of light, and shelter numerous other living things. And yet to look into them as light recedes is to feel far removed from Nature, as if all our pretensions stem from something we ourselves don’t understand, don’t want to understand.
