Video Games and Foucault

The essence of disciplined bodies is that they are malleable; they can be shaped to perform in lock-step (literally) under a command hierarchy. The tension, of course, is that this strategic control always involves a tradeoff with the tactical, the ability of a group to respond on the fly, to emergent situations.

– Thomas Malaby, “Discipline Pwnage” in Terra Nova.

I have linked to the above article because I think it is an excellent discussion of Foucault and post-modern thought generally. The central concern is power, and my question is how ethical concerns stem from that or are washed away. There is something a bit problematic, one might conjecture, when some of a thinker’s best ideas concern not our deepest longings but our video gaming.
